Bing Search Portal

Can any search engine take away GOOGLE’s reign as hte number one search engine on the web? BING just might be the one!

Microsoft made the preview of BING public today, and you can tell it’s not your fathers search engine. Taking a bit of a new approach to internet searching, BING provides not only very relevant results, but also provides great tools such as related searches, on page live video previews, and even live pricing of airline fares, etc.

I know many who have made BING their default search engine and/or home page already.

What an interesting time for the web. BING, Google Wave… as if we already didn’t have enough reasons to sit at the computer 🙂

U.S. and HD TV come to Canada iTunes!

May 28, 2009
iTunes Canada gets real content!

iTunes Canada gets real content!

This is huge. We all know that Canada gets the short end of the stick these days when it comes to things like access to HULU, Pandora  and other sites and services which broadcast US content. So I’m EXCITED to announce that iTunes Store Canada is now offering HD content, and even better – US CONTENT!  Could HULU and PANDORA be next?

Microsoft BING Coming Soon

May 28, 2009

bing Remember Microsoft Live Search? You know, that search engine you try once each time you reinstall Windows and haven’t reconfigured your default search engine back to Google yet?

It looks like it’s growing up! Microsoft has announced that “Bing” is coming soon. And it looks like it just might be worth taking notice of.

They are touting it as a “Decision Engine” more than a search engine. if you watch the video you’ll see what they mean. Does this mean they are NOT trying to compete with Google?  Or are they trying to be more than Google? Not sure yet. Information Week has posted a good article with more in-depth info.

Either way, the impression I’m getting is that they may just be getting search right this time. I’m looking forward to playing with this!

Microsoft releases “Windows 7 IT Pro Guides”

March 5, 2009

Microsoft recently release it’s first Windows 7 IT Pro Guides.

As reported in Windows 7 News:

Microsoft has released two new documents aimed at IT professionals. Windows 7 Manageability and Windows 7 What’s New can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. They are both available in doc format and cover specific topics of interests to IT professionals. The What’s New document covers “many new and changed Windows 7 features of interest to IT professionals, including DirectAccess, BranchCache and other networking technologies, VHD boot and other deployment technologies, and AppLocker, Biometrics, and other security technologies.” while Windows 7 Manageability provides an overview of improvements in regards to manageability in Windows 7.

The Windows 7 What’s New document has been designed like a FAQ. It should be an interesting read not only for IT professionals but also for tech savvy users who would like a quick overview of the new features in the Windows 7 operating system.

The buzz in and outside the industry around Windows 7 is great. I think people are getting tired of the “Mac Monopoly” on operating systems that are “cool”. Welcome to the real world Mac. You rock… and so does Windows 7!

Windows 7 Already a Winner !

February 3, 2009

Windows7If you haven’t downloaded Windows 7 Beta 1 yet… do it now. You don’t know what you’re missing!

I am amazed that a product in the Beta 1 stage is so stable, so fast, so compatible and so compelling.

 For example:

  • Windows 7 runs much faster than Vista SP1
  • Windows 7 UAC is actually COOL
  • Windows 7 Aero is fun AND functional
  • Windows 7 has a new taskbar that is really cool
  • Windows 7 Themes (soon to be known as Styles) rock
  • Windows 7 Libraries make working with files and media FUN and EASY
  • Windows 7 networking is great. Imagine connecting to a new network with ONE CLICK, not SIX!
  • Windows 7 Media Player (12) is really cool
  • Windows 7 gives the calculator, Paint and Wordpad much needed overhauls
  • Windows 7 has yet to NOT find a driver for all the hardware I’ve thrown at it
  • Windows 7 runs on pretty minimal hardware
  • Windows 7 boots so much faster than Vista
  • Windows 7 installs in less time than any OS I’ve ever seen
  • Windows 7 includes MULTI TOUCH!
  • Windows 7 says “Bye Bye” Sidebar, and makes gadgets work better

If you have either Technet Plus, or MSDN subscriptions go download and install Windows 7 today. You won’t be sorry!

Oh, and now that I’ve gotten my enthusiasm out for Windows 7, I’ll start posting more specific reviews and information. But for this post, I just want to say…
